The Camino de Santiago–a Series (4)
Our journey walking through the Pyrenees began with challenges. We found ourselves climbing through thick mud and the weather became unpredictable, with cool, misty rain and unexpectedly sudden warmth. I would remove my rain jacket and within minutes a sharp wind appeared and I would feel cold again. I was continuously fussing with my jacket, walking sticks and pack while navigating the muddy paths and steep terrain.
Although I no longer felt the pain in my ankle, it was not surprising that my physical body was losing energy. There were times I felt I could no longer keep climbing. I was intent not to focus on the fatigue. Instead, I curiously gained waves of momentum as my energy would fade. As if my physical energy was recharging itself.
Looking back, I realized that something profound had happened. I had begun walking in the moment. All my senses began to connect to the present, to the nature and silence around me. It was recharging my physical and mental energy—I was walking in complete balance of my mind, body and spirit. I listened, and the Camino took me to an unexpected place of self-discovery.
The journey on the Camino had a way of guiding me into places of hardships and challenges, both physically and emotionally. It also lead me into joyful moments that connected to the Spirit of the Camino over and over again.
